Capt Chase Wise SOUTHERN FLY CHARTERS INFO

Your Guide: Capt Chase Wise

My background in fishing

I began fly fishing when I was eight years old, and by the time I was in high school I knew I wanted to be a fishing guide, I thought about going west to guide for trout, but then I caught my first tarpon and was hooked for life, I have been fishing Charlotte Harbor for over ten years and there is no place else like it in the world. I have fished the Keys for months at a time however I kept coming back to Boca Grande not only for the amazing fishery but also because of the atmosphere and history that surrounds the town and the waters. Boca Grande is a very laid back place with a small town feel, if you have never been I encourage you to come experience Boca because it is definitely a hidden tropical paradise.

My Goal

My Goal is not only to catch your targeted species of fish but to also give you a memorable day on the water as well as to educate, and share my knowledge of fishing to help preserve our fisheries and to help you understand what Emerson meant when he wrote " Many men go fishing all their lives never knowing what they are fishing for.

My boat

I have a 18 foot Hell's Bay Guide skiff which allows me to pole in the shallow waters of Charlotte Harbor in search of redfish, snook, and laid up tarpon.

Tobor Reels AND G-Loomis Rods My gear

I will have more than enough tackle for your needs. I primarily use G-Loomis rods but I have a couple Sage rods as well as Stiffy spinning rods. All my fly reels are Tibor and spinning reels are either Shimano Stradic or Quantum Cabo series. I use Rio fly line on all my fly reels; for redfish and snook, I use 7 or 8 weight rods with floating lines, for tarpon I have 12 weights with either intermediate sinking line, sink tip, or floating depending of the time of year and tides. However, if you are bringing your own rod, I suggest you rig it with either sink tip or intermediate line.

Frequently asked questions

What do I wear?- It is always a smart idea to bring a rain coat no matter what time of year it is. Wear what's comfortable for you, and dress for the day, if it is a little chilly one morning dress in layers because the boat ride will be cold and you can always shed the extra layers as the day warms up. With all the modern day technology, clothing now has SPF ratings and there are also moister wicking fibers that are very comfortable, however the two most important items are a hat that will help protect your face from the sun and polarized sunglasses.
